ROUTE DESIGN
Segments of each Trans-Texas Corridor route will be built in phases over several years, with the sequence of construction based on transportation needs. For example, the first phase of one route might include only lanes for cars. A second phase might add separate lanes for large trucks, a third phase for railways, and a fourth phase for utilities. Another route, again based on need, might be built with a different phasing sequence.
Upon completion, lanes for various modes of travel and utilities will often run adjacent and parallel to one another. However, lanes sometimes will diverge to accommodate logistical considerations. For instance, a railway may need to separate away from car and truck lanes to reach loading and delivery destinations or to avoid curves or natural features such as lakes or hills.
Interchanges & Access
Highway planners will work with communities near TTC routes in designing interchanges and access points to ensure:
- emergency access
- connections between properties separated by the TTC route
- economic benefit to nearby communities
